Books & Materials
New fiction and non-fiction. Audiobooks, databases, digital lending. Books are still the heart of the library, and we help keep the shelves stocked for readers of every age.
For thirty-six years, the Duluth Library Foundation has kept books on the shelves, programs in the rooms, and the doors open to everyone who walks in.
We believe Duluth deserves a dynamic library that serves all people as a welcoming place where resources are offered freely and equitably.
The Duluth Library Foundation began in 1990 with a bequest from Olga Walker — seed money for an endowment, and a promise that the library would be cared for long after we were gone. Thirty-six years on, that promise still guides us.
We raise private funds to support programs and events, enhance spaces and services, and grow an endowment for the future. The city covers the building. Everything that happens inside it — story times, summer reading, internet access, tech classes, teen nights — is funded by neighbors like you.
The city of Duluth pays to keep the lights on. We make sure there's something worth visiting when people walk through the doors — books, programs, technology, and the spaces that hold it all together.
New fiction and non-fiction. Audiobooks, databases, digital lending. Books are still the heart of the library, and we help keep the shelves stocked for readers of every age.
For many of our neighbors, the library is the only place with free, reliable internet. We fund the computers, hotspots, and staff training that keep everyone connected.
Story times for toddlers. Homework help for teens. Job workshops, author visits, Summer Reading, and Learning & Libations — programming for the full arc of a reader's life.
From the reading rooms at the Main branch to the makerspaces of tomorrow. Our endowment, now past $2M, ensures the library is here for the next generation of Duluthians.
Private funds directed to the Duluth Public Library since we began, every dollar from people who believe a library is a public good.
The endowment Olga Walker's bequest made possible — a permanent fund distributing 3–5% annually to the library, forever.
Two branches — Main Library downtown and the West Duluth branch — serving one community of readers across the city.
Every public program and event at the library is funded through private donations, foundation grants, and community partnerships.
Duluth depends on its library. Every day, people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds walk in — to borrow a book, use the internet, take a class, or simply find a quiet place to be.
Every gift made this month is matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. And during National Library Week (April 19–25), a $5,000 challenge gift unlocks when 100 new donors give.
Give once, give monthly, leave a legacy, or honor someone you love. Every path ends in the same place — a library that stays open, free, and welcoming.
